We control every stage of the supply chain — from seed selection to finished product. This end-to-end control is what guarantees quality and consistency, batch after batch.
Every Kagome tomato starts life in a controlled greenhouse environment. Proprietary seeds — developed and selected by the Kagome Agri-Business R&D Centre — are germinated under precise conditions before transplanting. This stage guarantees varietal consistency, plant health and the genetic potential that will define the final product.
Carefully nurtured seedlings are transplanted to the fields of our certified partner farmers across Portugal's most productive agricultural regions. Our agronomists provide continuous support throughout the growing season — monitoring soil health, managing irrigation efficiently and minimising chemical inputs. The goal is always the same: a tomato that expresses its full natural potential.
The harvest decision is never routine. Our agronomists monitor every field daily as the campaign approaches, tracking ripeness, lycopene levels and sugar content. We harvest at the precise window of peak maturity — not a day early, not a day late. The campaign runs from July to October, with our logistics operating around the clock to move tomatoes from field to factory without delay.
Once harvested, the tomato is on a clock. Every hour that passes, flavour compounds degrade and nutrients diminish. Our facilities in Castanheira do Ribatejo process over 7,000 tonnes of fresh tomato per day, ensuring the journey from field to finished ingredient takes less than 24 hours. Speed and precision, in the service of flavour.
Quality control at Kagome Foods Portugal is not a final checkpoint — it is a continuous process woven into every stage of production. Samples are collected and analysed throughout. Every batch is fully documented and traceable, from the farm it came from to the customer it goes to. If it does not meet our standards, it does not leave our factory.
Portugal's Atlantic position is a logistical advantage. With direct access to major ports and excellent road connections across the Iberian Peninsula, we can reach any European destination efficiently. We work exclusively with logistics partners experienced in food-grade cold chain, so the product that arrives at your facility is in exactly the same condition it left ours.
